Dates and Times for Bugsy

Unless your child has a specific character they will need to wear a shirt/blouse and trousers/skirt/leggings with their hair tied back and shoes to dance in. Please ask if you are unsure. Costumes below are not provided by Theatre Cats unless stated.

Can everyone ensure they wear a base costume underneath if they have a costume change eg – vest top and tights/leggings

If your child is in the Do You Wanna Be A Boxer they will also need some kind of PE kit and trainers/pumps

Bugsy – Smart suit with white shirt, tie and hat.

Blousey – Couple of flowery dresses with a simple hat (Theatre Cats should be able to provide these.)

Tallulah and Tallulah Girls – 2 costume changes with Theatre Cats can provide. Will need accessories eg beads. Stage make up and hairly in girly up do’s.

Fizzy – Flat cap, old tatty shirt and dungarees if possible.

Smolsky and O’Dreary – suits if possible or blazers. Shirt and tie.

Leroy and Cagey Joe– Gym wear, trackie bottoms, trainers and vest.

Fat Sam and Dandy Dan – Smart suit with white shirt, tie and hat. Maybe a crazy shirt and bow tie to add comedy.

Fat Sam’s and Dandy Dan’s gangs – Shirts, ties and trousers/leggings. We can provide hats for these.

Roxy Robinson – Shirt and trousers and tie.

Seymour Scoop – Shirt and trousers-maybe braces.

Oscar de Velt - Shirt and trousers.

Babyface – Shirt and trousers and tie.

Radio Announcer and Reporter - Shirt and trousers-maybe braces.

The following characters will need shirt/trousers/tie plus a change for their character below:

Louella – dress

Singer – dress

Markini and assistant – all in black. Bow tie if possible.

Ventriloquist – all in black. Puppet if possible.

Barman – jeans and plain polo shirt/t-shirt

Butler/Maid – smart. Maid can use the apron.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

A Christmas Carol is being performed at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton on Trent in January 2012 and we would like to offer our students the chance to see some live musical theatre.

The musical opens as carols are being sung and lamps are glowing. Christmas is near and all are awaiting the early close of the Exchange so the holiday can officially start. From bankers to charwomen, all wish each other “A Jolly Good Time,” looking forward to the holiday fun ahead. Later that evening Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by three spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways.

Will Scrooge manage to alter his future in time to enjoy Christmas day?

It’s a great chance for you to join your child and so could be a theatre trip for all the family if you wish. However, for those of you who cannot attend but still wish your child to go along then we have organised for 30 children to meet the Theatre Cats staff at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton on Saturday 21^st January 2012 at 2pm for a 2:30pm start. Tickets are £9.00 each. We can only offer 30 supervised places due to limitations with staff. All tickets will be on a first-come-first-served basis. The performance will finish at approximately 4:45pm and parents of the supervised children will be asked to come into the Brewhouse to collect their child/children.

Please note however, that due to the musical being of a scary nature e.g. ghosts, we are only offering supervised places to children aged 10 and over. You can obviously come along as a family with a younger child if you wish.

Please return the slip below asap in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and full payment enclosed. Please make cheques payable to ‘Theatre Cats.’ The final deadline for all ticket requests is Saturday 12^th November 2011 as tickets are selling quickly.

The classes are aimed at all children between the ages of 5 and 16. Our goal is to inspire confidence and self-esteem through our classes, which include drama, dance, singing, movement and musical theatre, all delivered by our team of professional teachers and performers.

Your first class is FREE, so you can come along and see how much fun we have without having to pay a penny! Classes are just £7 per session thereafter, and discounts are also available for two or more siblings attending.

The children aged between 6-15 from Theatre Cats Stage School which has classes in Burton, Newhall and Derby, took Drama exams run by Trinity College London…and every single student passed for the third year running!

They had to prepare monologues, mimes, recite poetry from memory, discuss their chosen pieces and engage in story-telling to pass the exams. Some even had to write their own pieces and improvise during their exams.

The exam process was purely optional for every student and forty-eight students decided to take the plunge. “The two exam days were a huge success with every single student achieving the required pass-mark,” said Catherine Budworth, Principal of Theatre Cats. “The staff were absolutely thrilled when we heard the news. This is our third year with 100% pass rate and this year 46% of the children gained distinctions – the highest score possible. We look forward to presenting the certificates to the students in September. They have all worked so hard.”

Theatre Cats offers theatre classes for 1-16 year-olds in Staffordshire and Derbyshire along with Glee show choirs for children and adults as well. It currently has 16 classes throughout Derby, Burton and Swadlincote and are hoping to open another 8 classes across Uttoxeter, Ashby and Derby from September 2011. The stage school is also running a Oliver Musical Theatre Summer School for 5-16 year-olds from 15th – 19^th August in Littleover, Derby. Call 01283 531635 to book a place. The exam clinic is this Sat 9th July at Shobnall Leisure Complex, Burton, DE14 2BB. The appointments have been given to those who have asked for them, however, if your child hasn’t got an appointment then we do have a few left from 3:50pm onwards until 5pm.

As for the exam days (Sat 16th and Sun 17th July) these will be at The Priory Centre, Stretton, Burton, DE13 0HE. Everyone has been given a letter with their time and date on and what they should bring with them. Please remember to arrive 15 minutes before your exam time.

Also note – there are no Theatre Cats classes on Sat 16th July because of the exams. Our last Saturday classes before the summer are on Sat 23rd July where we will distribute dates, invoices, reports and certificates.
