FAQ
Q: Do I need to be able to have a really good singing voice?
A: No, just a desire to make music and have fun. A lot of what we will be doing will be choral where many voices are singing together to create a beautiful sound.
Q: Do I have to sing on my own?
A: No. Not if you don’t wish to. Some of the songs will have solos but these will be given to those who want to sing on their own.
Q: What is harmony?
A: Harmony is when you have a number of ‘tunes’ that are sung together at the same time. It comes from the Greek verb ἁρμόζω (harmozo) which means: “to fit together, to join.”
Q: What is unison?
A: This is where several singers are singing the same melody together.
Q: Will I have to audition to join?
A: No. Auditions can intimidate people and we want our Glee Choir to be welcoming for everyone.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: Your first class is FREE! Subsequent classes will be £5 per week. Existing Theatre Cats students and their parents it will cost just £3.00. If you introduce a friend to Glee Club and they enrol after their free class you will then get your next class half price!
Q: What if I can’t make a class?
A: Don’t worry, simply attend when you can. Please do inform us of holidays etc though as that will help us to plan the classes.
Q: Will I have to read music?
A: No. If you can read music to some level then that is great but it is not essential. To begin with you will be able to just follow the words. Over time, however you will start to follow the little black dots and the rests with help from your Glee Choir Musical Director.
Q: Will I have to dance?
A: We prefer to use the word ‘move’ rather than the word ‘dance.’ If you can tap along to the beat with a smile and a wiggle you will be just fine. Any moves that we ask you to do will be simple but enjoyable too so no worries there.
Q: Will we perform in concerts or competitions?
A: This isn’t our intention as we start Glee Choir. However, as the choir progresses and becomes more confident then you all may wish to showcase your talents with an end of year concert or a local school fete. These decisions won’t simply be made for you though, if the choir as a whole prefer not to perform then we won’t.
Q: What kind of music will we sing?
A: Loads! Pop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Blues, Classical…the list is endless! We also welcome new ideas from you so if you have a favourite Beatles song or a Disney medley you think others will enjoy then just bring it along.
Q: What if I don’t know anyone?
A: Don’t worry. We’ll all be much more relaxed before the hour is up and hopefully after a couple of weeks you will have made new friends for life! Also feel free to bring a friend along with you if you prefer.
