Spring 2011 Newsletter – Glee Choir, Oliver Summer School and more!

Derby students arrive at 1:30pm at The Willington Village Hall and sign in. Students must arrive in full costume, and make-up if needed and bring a drink and small snack with them.

We will then have a final dress rehearsal before the audience are welcomed in at 3:20pm. The show will start at 3:30pm and finish at approximately 5pm. Students to sign out.

Unless your child has a specific character then they need to wear bright and colourful clothing with their hair tied back and shoes to dance in. Please ask if you are unsure.

Cinderella – rags and apron. Tiara, pretty shoes and earrings needed (blue dress we will provide)

Rockerfella – Leathers – rock star image – sunglasses

Dan Deeny – rock image as well – smart

Buttons – Work uniform

Ugly Sisters – dresses, shoes, wigs and make up

Warm up people – clown like characters

Teaser – All black or brown + face paints + tail

Naughty Kitty – All black + face paints (we will provide ears, tail and collar.)

Fairy Nasty Boots – Boots, tutu, rock chick image

4 Fairies – Funky with wellies and slip on shoes

Fairy Godmother – Own dress, we will provide wand and tiara

Monsiour Bunn – Colourful then add apron and hat

Bakers – aprons/hats

Theatre Cats Derby – Cancelled on Wed 1st December

Theatre Cats Derby – Cancelled on Wed 1st December

Our 5-16 year olds in Burton, Newhall and Mickleover will be doing their auditions for our Panto performance this year of Cinderlla and Rockerfella with kind permission from Out of the Ark Music. The Burton and Newhall groups will perform separately but both at The William Allitt School in the Junior Hall on Saturday 11th December. Times to be confirmed. We are currently looking for a venue for our Mickleover students which is a little closer to home.

Tickets will go on sale in November and will be on a first come first served basis.

The team at Theatre Cats are very excited about this performance as we have so many talented students and so the casting is proving to be very challenging.

Hopefully we will be reading the cast list out this week for each location.

The summer schools ran from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th August at
The William Allitt School in Newhall and Monday 23rd – Friday 27th
August at Heatherton Community Centre in Littleover. On the last
day there was a performance to family and friends to showcase the
talents of the youngsters. ‘It’s amazing what you did in just four
days. The children were obviously really enjoying themselves’ said
one parent.

The children were so dedicated and they enjoyed every second.
We were very proud of them.

The Theatre Cats team are already planning next year’s summer school. Classes for children aged 2 – 16 run throughout term time and the stage school also runs theatre trips, examinations, performances and summer schools. New classes to open in September, to qualify for a free taster class simply fill in the Info Request Form or call 0845 003 8230.

Wizard of Oz Summer School – A Musical Theatre Summer

Fifty-nine children from the Swadlincote, Burton and Derby areas are celebrating this week after passing their Speech and Drama exams.

The children aged between five and sixteen from Theatre Cats Stage School which has classes in Burton, Newhall and Derby, took Drama exams run by Trinity College London…and every single student passed for the second year running!

They had to prepare monologues, mimes, recite poetry from memory, discuss their chosen pieces and engage in story-telling to pass the exams.

The exam process was purely optional for every student and forty five students decided to take the plunge. “The two exam days were a huge success with every single student achieving the required pass-mark,” said Catherine Budworth, Principal of Theatre Cats. “We were absolutely thrilled when we heard the news of a 100% pass rate. This is our second year with 100% pass rate and this year 63% of the children gained merits. We look forward to presenting the certificates to the students in September.”

Theatre Cats offers theatre classes for 2-16 year-olds in Staffordshire and Derbyshire. It currently has 13 classes throughout Derby, Burton and Swadlincote. The classes are divided into relevant age categories and each class is limited to a maximum of 15 students to ensure quality tuition. The stage school is also running a Wizard of Oz Summer School for 5-16 year-olds from 23rd-27^th August in Littleover, Derby. Call 0845 003 8230 to book a place. Their Newhall Summer School is already full.

Catherine Budworth continued to say: “We at Theatre Cats pride ourselves on being a friendly and exciting stage school. Our aim is to encourage confidence and self-esteem through the performing arts. Learning through these art forms allows children to explore their creativity and have fun whilst leaving their shyness and worries behind. Our team are dedicated to ensuring that children receive the very best tuition in a fun and safe environment.”
