Dear Parent/Guardian,

A Christmas Carol is being performed at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton on Trent in January 2012 and we would like to offer our students the chance to see some live musical theatre.

The musical opens as carols are being sung and lamps are glowing. Christmas is near and all are awaiting the early close of the Exchange so the holiday can officially start. From bankers to charwomen, all wish each other “A Jolly Good Time,” looking forward to the holiday fun ahead. Later that evening Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by three spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways.

Will Scrooge manage to alter his future in time to enjoy Christmas day?

It’s a great chance for you to join your child and so could be a theatre trip for all the family if you wish. However, for those of you who cannot attend but still wish your child to go along then we have organised for 30 children to meet the Theatre Cats staff at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton on Saturday 21st January 2012 at 2pm for a 2:30pm start. Tickets are £9.00 each. We can only offer 30 supervised places due to limitations with staff. All tickets will be on a first-come-first-served basis. The performance will finish at approximately 4:45pm and parents of the supervised children will be asked to come into the Brewhouse to collect their child/children.

Please note however, that due to the musical being of a scary nature e.g. ghosts, we are only offering supervised places to children aged 10 and over. You can obviously come along as a family with a younger child if you wish.

Please return the slip below asap in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and full payment enclosed. Please make cheques payable to ‘Theatre Cats.’ The final deadline for all ticket requests is Saturday 12th November 2011 as tickets are selling quickly.

Kind regards

Catherine Budworth

FAQ
Q: Do I need to be able to have a really good singing voice?
A: No, just a desire to make music and have fun. A lot of what we will be doing will be choral where many voices are singing together to create a beautiful sound.

Q: Do I have to sing on my own?
A: No. Not if you don’t wish to. Some of the songs will have solos but these will be given to those who want to sing on their own.

Q: What is harmony?
A: Harmony is when you have a number of ‘tunes’ that are sung together at the same time. It comes from the Greek verb ἁρμόζω (harmozo) which means: “to fit together, to join.”

Q: What is unison?
A: This is where several singers are singing the same melody together.

Q: Will I have to audition to join?
A: No. Auditions can intimidate people and we want our Glee Choir to be welcoming for everyone.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: Your first class is FREE! Subsequent classes will be £5 per week, however, if you pay for 4 weeks then you will get the 5th week free! Existing Theatre Cats students and their parents it will cost just £3.00. If you introduce a friend to Glee Club and they enrol after their free class you will then get your next class half price!

Motivational Drama Quotes

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

This post is all about motivation and confidence. I will add new quotes to the top of this post on a regular basis.

Drama stimulates the imagination in both children and adults.

Drama installs confidence in children by allowing them to improvise and experiment and understanding that there is no final answer.

Drama encourages speech development, awareness of body language and allowing children to become more socially aware.

Drama also works by stimulating and supporting the growth of imagination.

Learning through drama allows children to explore their creativity and have fun whilst leaving their shyness and worries behind.

Learning through Laughter.
