Theatre Cats Stage School is an exciting and dynamic school of Theatre Arts that was established in Burton on Trent in January 2008. Theatre Cats is for children and young adults aged between 5 and 16 years of age and offers theatre classes in Burton, Newhall and Mickleover. Classes are separated by age rather than ability; over time we have come to find that not only is this good for improving the confidence of complete beginners – it also develops a strong sense of leadership in students with previous acting experience.
All classes begin with basic drama skills, helping to build confidence and self-esteem. They also include rudimentary performance skills in stagecraft, acting, singing and movement. Students will learn valuable performance techniques, including: character building, vocal projection, diction, improvisation, devising and script work. These classes are especially designed to be great fun for all ages and abilities!
Every student needs to get the most from each session, therefore numbers are strictly limited to just 15 students per class. This ensures that each student receives personalised tuition to help them progress quickly in a secure and positive environment, which in turn enables them to gain self-confidence and self-esteem. Every child is offered the chance to try Theatre Cats for free at a no obligation trial class. Classes are then just £7 per session.
When these fundamental skills have been attained, each student will have the option to train towards Trinity College examinations in Acting, Speaking of Verse and Prose, Mime and Devised Performance. These are offered from Initial Level up to the *UCAS Recognised Grade 8* (excellent for those pursuing a career in acting and/or wishing to study drama at a Higher Education Level). These exams are not compulsory but are an excellent way for children to receive recognition for their hard work. Trinity exam tuition is at no extra cost to our students but the examination fees are in addition to session costs. 2015 will be our 7th year of taking part in Trinity College examinations and there have been over 250 exams taken during that time... last year 100% of our students not only passed their exams but every single person achieved a Merit or Distinction!
*Through our connection with The Trinity College comes an exciting new opportunity; when students pass grades 6-8 they will achieve points that will go towards UCAS applications for those wishing to apply for university or higher-level courses.
UCAS points :-
Grade 6 – Pass 20 points, Merit 35, Distinction 40
Grade 7 – Pass 35 points, Merit 50, Distinction 55
Grade 8 – Pass 45 points, Merit 60, Distinction 65
We run a vast array of optional activities throughout the year including theatre trips and holiday workshops based on specific themes or popular musicals...
The past 7 years have seen our students rehearse and perform an entire show in a week! These 'Summer Schools' have included High School Musical, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, The Jungle Book, Sweeney Todd and many more! Why not take a look at some of the students in action here?
Workshops will also be available from outside agencies offering extra tuition in singing, musical theatre, circus skills, dance, performance and much more.
Reporting to Parents
Parents will want to know how their child is progressing and so reports are issued at the end of each academic year in July. Students also perform in dramas, musicals, concerts, charity events and showcases which parents will be invited to. Theatre Cats also issue certificates and rewards at the end of each term to celebrate hard work and dedication. These include 100% Attendance Award, Star Award and Most Improved Student Award.
Here at Theatre Cats we pride ourselves on being a friendly and exciting stage school which offers everyone - regardless of previous experience, the opportunity for development to become the best they can be. Our aim is to encourage confidence and self-esteem through the performing arts. Learning through these art forms allows children to explore their creativity and have fun whilst leaving their shyness and worries behind... not just in the classroom, but for good!. This also works by stimulating and supporting the growth of imagination and other self expression.
Our students have the opportunity to connect with others in a more meaningful way. In our opinion the arts encourage speech development, awareness of body language and encourage your child to become more socially aware. Drama and the arts installs confidence in children by allowing them to improvise and experiment. Our promise is simple; that they will gain this confidence by understanding that there is no 'final answer' and that their opinion and contribution is valued...
...to sum Theatre Cats up: Our team are dedicated to ensuring that your child receives only the very best tuition in a fun and safe environment.
EVERYONE is given the opportunity
to shine within Theatre Cats!
